AC3 decoding

Gang:

I'd like to double-check the following conclusions I've drawn from tests of CoreAudio under 10.3:

(1) AudioFile has a syntactic understanding of AC3 audio files, but
(2) AudioConverter is unable to convert them.
(3) There is no Apple-supplied AC3 decode component or similar available to average users. (Obviously the DVDFramework decodes AC3 audio but that's not what I'm talking about.)

Or have I missed something? Comments appreciated.
