Unfortunately I'm not familiar with PowerPlant or PortAudio - so I have a couple of questions:

PowerPlant is a cross-platform framework? I.e. I can build my UI on my Mac and then compile and run it for Windows? (I just found one website that said the PowerPlant runtime for Windows is $50,000! - that can't be right can it?)

Is this a good approach to solving the problem?

That is correct (or at least the license fee is the right order of magnitude). Metrowerks doesn't derive enough profit from Windows development to justify PP/Windows as free (they do for embedded development hosted on Windows, but that is a different can of worms).

As for switching to PowerPlant, I wouldn't consider it a good approach at this point in time. Much of PowerPlant doesn't properly support Mac OS X, and in fact I don't think it supports much more than CarbonLib 1.6 (so no HIView, no toolbars, etc - at least not without a lot of work).

Reality is what, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.
Failure is not an option. It is a privilege reserved for those who try.
