Thanks for all the on-list (and off-list) responses. When I queried the quicktime-api list, I received similar answers. The news of the SMAC component (part of the examples!) was very welcome.

Looks like I'll be doing an Audio Codec. I'm sure I'll be leaning heavily on this list for help as I dive into it. :)
