Hi Marc,

Is a external device just an alias to the physical device or is it much more then that ?

In the CoreMIDI API set, an External Device describes a MIDI Device that is connected to a MIDI Interface (which is what I'm guessing you're referring to when you say "device".)

CoreMIDI itself only knows about interfaces (devices.) The APIs for External devices are there to allow setup applications (like Audio MIDI Setup) to allow users to describe the MIDI Devices connected to their MIDI Interfaces.

What's the benefice to use an endpoint to a external device ?

What are you trying to do exactly?

Luke
