USB/laptop interfaces?

  • Subject: USB/laptop interfaces?

Howdy,

I'm interested in adding a prosumer-level audio interface to my
tiBook, and was curious if anyone had any experience with the
mid-range M-Audio (i.e. Quattro) and emagic cards. I'm especially
interested in latency and "playing nice" with CoreAudio applications
(including, of course, GarageBand). Can I go with USB, or do I need
to go PCMCIA or FireWire?

I have a (basically disposable) Onkyo MSE-U33hb, but the latency is
really bad and the hum is almost intolerable, even running off of
separate power. Furthermore, it only seems to work properly with some
applications.

thanks,
wb
