any MIDI over IP solutions for WAN use?

  • Subject: any MIDI over IP solutions for WAN use?

Is anyone aware of any existing solutions for transporting MIDI over IP that
will work over a broadband WAN connection? I am thinking of a utility that
does all the right things to publish midi endpoints for CoreAudio use, i.e.
within Audio Midi Setup.

If nothing exists I might try to do something with the MIDI-over-RTP stuff
that John Lazzaro and others have been working on, which as I understand it
consists of some incomplete code not reflecting the current state of the RTP
MIDI standard.

See:

http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~lazzaro/sa/pubs/txt/current-rtp-midi.txt
http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~lazzaro/sa/pubs/txt/current-guide.txt

But before I do any such work I want to make sure somebody else isn't
already working on something similar. If I end up doing this I will solicit
inputs as to what is the right way to do this for good integration with
CoreAudio.

Thanks,
Kurt Bigler
