What function do you think might be returning this error?
If the user didn't transcribe it correctly and in fact it were -10868,
that would be kAudioUnitErr_FormatNotSupported.
The DLS synth returns this if you set an output format other than
stereo deinterleaved native float 32. The reverb returns it if the
format isn't mono or stereo ... some of the helper classes in the AU
SDK throw that error if they encounter an inconsistency between an
element's format and a buffer ...
