Header files (including property and parameter defs) are here:
/System/Library/Frameworks/AudioUnit.framework/Headers/

You can see a list of AU subtypes in AUComponent.h
(in that same dir).

To test running examples, you can use Rax, the
Numerology Beta, SynthTest, or one of Apple's
hosting examples.
