Yeah, they were removed because they were never documented and no one said that they were using them, plus they would be overridden by the volume control (still are), so if you adjusted the boot volume, then the volume, the volume adjustment would override the boot specific setting.

They're back for 10.3.x (unclear if x == 0 or if it's only on later versions). Just make sure you set them last. :-)
