Hi
I am not a developer. I joined this list to read, and learn, as much
as possible. I use Logic and have upgraded to 6.4.1. I also own BFD
from Fxpansion which is the virtual drummer/drum instrument. It comes
in an AU version.
There are 2 problems that the developer says are caused by limitations
of the AU spec and/or Logic's handling of it.
1. BFD has a mode where it can auto start a drum loop with song start.
This doesn't work right. When I wrote to the developer, I got the
following response:
"The "sync issue" I hope that is troubling you is the auto-start/stop;
this is actually a limitation of AU - there is no way we can
guarantee correct detection of song start as AU's aren't actually
informed of song start like VST's, so our wrapper code has to
make an educated guess - we are starting to recommend AU
users that they use groove notes on their host sequencer timelines
to start BFD grooving."
so the first question... is a fix for this in the works? Ironically, I
use a VST instrument called GrooveAgent. In order to used it in Logic,
I have to use a wrapper from Fxpansion. This combination does properly
sync with song start.
2. I requested the same company to implement an output of midi notes
from BFD in much the same way this is done in Steinberg's GrooveAgent.
The trouble with this is twofold: A. BFD does not presently output
midi, and B. even if it did, Logic can't accept midi input from a
plug-in. (As a side note, Cubase SX CAN accept midi input from
GrooveAgent.
so the 2d question...are there plans to fix this as well.
Would appreciate any input I can get on this..
Best Regards,
Stefan Garr
