Setting Speech Synthesizer to left channel only

  • Subject: Setting Speech Synthesizer to left channel only

Folks.

Apologies for the cross-posting, not sure where to find help on this one.

I need to find a way to pan the speech synthesizer. In fact I just need to make sure it only comes out one side of the sound output.

Since there appears to be no way to control the speech channel pan directly, I have tried creating a sound channel, then using 'SetSpeechInfo' to assign this audio channel to the speech channel, so I can manipulate the sound channel.

However, contrary to the Apple documentation, the selector 'sndo', or soSoundOutput is rejected with a -231 error from GetSpeechInfo and SetSpeechInfo. -231 appears to be siUnknownInfoType.

So - can anyone else help here ? A real brute force method would be to shut down sound completely on one channel during speech - is there access to the global pan/LR levels ?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Mark Gilbert
