I *would* use AudioUnitEvents for BeginParameterChangeGesture and EndParameterChangeGesture notifications if certain hosts supported them (Does any? - Dunno).
Logic will support it soon, I've already done most of the work for it.

I would really need that in all hosts that do parameter automation. I have a case where the AU itself has to fire events for recording automation, even if the AUView is closed (havn't tried to use the mousing notifications, the gesture events sound way more plausible here).

It's a pity that there's no hoval!
Certainly it would be nice to have some sophisticated diagnostic AU for checking our hosts.

Yeah, but I don't think it can say as much about the host implementation as auval can find out about plugins.
