QuickTime *music* ... it's really not MIDI ...

The CoreAudio API's provide several alternatives for applications to provide
this behaviour for users and for quite some time now (years, not months)

So... no?

There are some ancient QT component interfaces for plugging into this ... though I suspect that they're deprecated.

we've been very clear about the need for developers to move over to CA APIs
from both SoundMgr and QT Music APIs.

That's swell if you're a developer.

If you're a user, you're presented with a UI that suggests QuickTime MIDI can indeed be routed to external MIDI. Is that supported or not? If not, perhaps there would be less confusion if the UI was removed.

You mean the Music tab of the QuickTime pref panel? It's used for selecting the default DLS/Sound Font sample bank.
