Adding GUI to a standard host-provided interface AudioUnit

I'm working to adapt an existing vst plugin I just developed and make it an
AU. I currently have wrapped the DSP part and I built it up as a "standard
GUI" AU.

Now I'm trying to add the GUI stuff. Since AUGui seems to be a complete
graphic framework, but I'm already using my own graphics stuff, I'm
wondering whether it is possible just to get the few GUI related events
needed (GUI open, close, idle, draw, mouse) without having to interface my
graphics code with those AUGui classes.

Any advice?

Peter
