CoreAudio for QuickTime?

Hi,

This maybe should be in the QuickTime list but I thought I'd ask here
first. I'm having horrendous latency and playback issues with
QuickTime's QTMA. I've seen suggested elsewhere that we should be using
CoreMIDI and CoreAudio instead. So before I go and write a new media
handler component for QuickTime to support a new media that doesn't use
QTMA I thought I'd ask if anybody else has done this first? That is, has
anybody used CoreAudio/CoreMIDI to do music synthesis in QuickTime?
