Have you tried sending the commands for Copy/Paste/etc to the focused control manually? I don't know where you'd insert that into a Cocoa app (since this is normally automatic in Carbon). I suspect the problem is that Cocoa doesn't use the standard Command IDs for those menu items which is what is preventing that behavior.
