Hello,
It appears that several AU plug-ins state will change after their
kAudioUnitProperty_MaximumFramesPerSlice or their sample rate is
changed. This state change causes the current program/patch/sound
to be replaced with the default sound. This may be due to the fact
that they have to be uninitialized and re-initialized before these
settings can be made.
However I hear that Apple's Logic product saves and restores the
plug-ins state before changing these properties. So, Apple, is this
part of the AU specification? Does a host have to save and restore
the plug-ins state simply because the sample rate or frame size
changes?
No - auval does what it can to ensure that state is preserved by an
AU across Initialisation and Reset - by checking that the parameter
values retain their values.
Any AUs that behave in the manner as you describe to be mis-behaving
and out-of-spec. If you could give me details, I'll be happy to
forward on a report to the AU companies.
