Getting properties from AU in GUI fails if requested too quickly

In CreateUI, before my GUI is created it asks my AU for some info about itself.

On a couple of hosts (Wave Editor. forget other) the call for AU properties is completely ignored, unless I create a very slight pause at the beginning of the CreateUI function. I came across the pause idea because whenever I stopped it in the debugger and commenced again there, everything was fine!
I can stop the debugger in the AU constructor, and it is always created first so it's not like it doesn't exits yet.
To fix this it appears I just needed to shuffle the AU property fetching a little way dorwn the code. An extremely crappy fix!
Has anybody had this before? Couldn't find it in the archives.

It's a Universal Binary running on MacIntel.

Cheers,
Dave Hoskins
