An acceptable workaround seems to be to simply save an empty document
somewhere and always open AULab with that document.

First - thanks to anybody who might be reading who is responsible
for the AULab application. It's very cool! Any chance of publishing
the source?
I really appreciate the detailed documentation. I went searching
through it today trying to figure out how to get AULab to "just
open up" instead of always prompting me for an input device.
I have "Create a default document" selected as my startup
preference, but it still prompts me every time!
Looking in the docs:
file:///Developer/Applications/Audio/AU Lab Documentation/
AULabHelp/Preferences.html#Document Settings
I see the explanation: "This option will behave the same as Show
Document Configuration Dialog if there are more than one devices
connected to the machine."
Boo hoo! It's enough to make me want to unplug my MOTU. Is there
any way around this? Why can't AULab just accept my default device
when this preference is set?
Thanks for your help,
Daniel
