Fair enough, but realize that all that someone needs to do now to circumvent
DRM is buy WireTap for $19 or Audio Hijack for $16. Or, for free developers
can use Soundflower (or make own equivalent) and then use your code above.
So, in the end, only honest non-guru Mac OS developers like myself are hurt.
In me previous emails, I felt is was import to make the distinction of the
actual basis for not having this in CoreAudio: DRM reasons or
performance/architecture reasons? Jeff's response suggests the latter which
is *way* easier to accept than the former (for reasons in my first
paragraph).
Also consider that the mixercontrol api exists in Win32, and the sky hasn't
fallen. It would seem that the moment that something like WireTap or Audio
Hijack comes into existence, it's only a minus to not have this
functionality in the CoreAudio API (because the DRM justification no longer
works).
