So can I do the whole lot with an MM somehow,

yes - a matrix mixer enables you to control the exact volumes (and thus channel distributions) to each of your outputs - have a look at the MM test code in /Developer/Examples/CoreAudio


This looks just right.

Is the MM optimized for this kind of demux operation? My case boils down to very simple bufferlist manipulation... the samples themselves should not be touched at all.
