I am having a similar problem with CoreMidi, only this time,
running as root makes no difference at all. The only way to make
it work is to run from a terminal session directly, as root or any
other user. Here is the nonfatal error from the console:
Mar 26 12:04:38 Dusk /usr/local/arserver/arserver: CoreMIDI: unable
to connect to server init port\n
MIDIServer is launched via the mach_init mechanism. It's a per-user
daemon (see /etc/mach_init_per_user.d). Apparently per-user servers
are not available in the bootstrap context in which your daemon is
running.
