Thanks, we'll need to fix this comment. The Java topics covered on
this list are "for developers using Core Audio...". That is,
developers previously could use either a C or Java API to directly
access Core Audio functionality. As previously discussed, we've
deprecated the Java API to Core Audio (the source for this is
available in the 1.3.x SDK still available on the developer web site).
This list does not cover general java developer usage of java
frameworks (whether Java's sound or midi extensions or general Java
classes), nor do we generally cover other Java API (like QTJava for
instance). This is not just a java issue, if QuickTime issues come up
on this list, we generally refer user to the QT API list, Cocoa
issues to cocoa-dev, etc...

Hi Bill
From Apple's own web site, http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo,
this list is described thus:
Coreaudio-api
A mailing list for developers using Core Audio and MIDI APIs (C or
Java) on MacOS X
That's why I regularly read this list and why I posted this comment
here. FWIW bug 3202451 is a Java audio bug, not a quick time bug.

QTJ and Java in general are entirely different and outside the
scope of this list. You need to follow up with those groups (there
are email lists for both QTJava and Java-Developers)

Hi Bill
I hate to sound cynical and negative, but the only bug *I* ever
reported is still open since 2003!

Sound: Java 1.4.1 does not find MIDI In device, but 1.3.1 did
(using QTJ)

Serious Bug
Open
It doesn't give me any confidence that Apple takes bug reports
seriously - or even bothers to read them.

What bug?
As we've stated many times: If you see behaviour that is
unexpected, etc, then it is perfectly fine to ask questions
about this on this list. However, this is not the end of the story.
You must file bugs with behaviours that are reproducible and
wrong. We don't necessarily know about these and you cannot
assume as you do below that we do.
To file a bug go to http://bugreporter.apple.com and file a
report. If at all possible, including sample code, media files,
etc that can reproduce the problem is a tremendous help. If you
are uncertain about the reproducibility of a problem, then
include as much information as you do know. The less
reproducible a problem is, the more likely it is that we will
request further information!, so the more you provide up front,
the better for everyone.
I look forward to seeing your bug report on this issue.

The ConvertFile (1) sample contains such sample code, and feel

However, allow me to tell you from my experience. I have
finally given up on CoreAudio for this task, and switched to
QuickTime. Let me tell you why:
1) There is a bad bug in the Audio File API causing bad hangs
with some malformed MP3 files
I beleive i've hit this on recording with CoreAudio, using code
borrowed from the afrecord sample. For some awkward reason the
recording works perfectly fine for me (MPEG-4, or WAVE) on my
intel Mac, but many other people's machines including my own
powerbook malform the MPEG-4 headers something nasty and result
in big corrupted media files.
Any status on this bug, or work arounds? Or am I going to have
to follow suit and go with Quicktime for recording?
Cheers,
