I posted this note about a JavaSound bug on the java-dev list and got no reply. Can someone from audio please comment on this bug?

I have noticed that JavaSound always says that only 44100 Hz audio input is supported. That is fine. I can work around that with sample rate converters.

But when my hardware is configured to run at 48000 Hz, JavaSound reports that it is delivering audio at 44100 Hz sample rate. What I get, however, is the raw audio at 48000 Hz. When I play it back at 44100 Hz it sounds about one whole step too low in pitch.

I expected JavaSound to either say it was delivering 48000 Hz audio, or rate convert down to 44100 Hz internally.

Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround?

I am using a G4 Mac Mini with a USB Edirol UA-25 device. A customer of mine had the same problem using built-in audio on a G4 PowerBook.

I am using Apple Java V1.5.0_06.

Thank you,
Phil Burk
