I have just one followup question on this topic:
How do I identify which device is the built-in audio Apple hardware? There don't appear to be any methods that would tell me that a particular piece of hardware is the built-in hardware. By the way, I'm looking at this page here as it seems most relevant to what I'm doing:

Is there somewhere else I need to look? Is there sample code that might help?
