I understand your point, and it is valid. Historically, however, there have
been examples of new releases of Logic and/or OS X that cause AudioUnits to
fail validation after they previously worked without apparent problem under
prior releases. The customer does not perceive that there is a potentially
serious problem if the problem has no symptoms. We have suggested overriding
the failed validation in Logic only as a temporary workaround while we work
on a revised release of the product. (To my knowledge, none of our current
products fail validation, including under 10.4.9.)

Please understand that I had no clue whatsoever that these seeds were
available before a few days ago. I learned of the seeding list from another
developer who contacted me privately. I apologize for the oversight if these
seeds have been repeatedly mentioned on the coreaudio-api list, but frankly
I do not have enough hours in the day to read every single message that
arrives from that list. Now that I have signed up to receive the seeds we
will indeed test against them.
Also understand that we currently have an interesting situation in-house: we
have an unreleased maintenance build of one of our products that passes
validation on a machine running OS 10.4.9 but _fails_ validation on a
machine running 10.4.8, using the versions of auval installed with those
systems. I suspect this is a side-effect of the Software Update problem that
appears to happen on Intel Macs, but I have not yet had the time to
thoroughly investigate the problem. It does, however, bear up the assertion
that the passing or failing of an AU by auval is not as an entirely
clear-cut situation as we would all like it to be.
