Developing a MIDI driver for a custom built device

Hi,

I want to develop a MIDI driver for a custom build device.

For now i just want to get into the MIDI framework in order to have a little more knowledge about it. For start i just want to make the simplest experience possible.

For example, create the code that will make a MIDI device appear in a host application.

Is it possible? Or i really need to have a device connected?

Then i want to make the real processing, using my device. It will be a USB device which appears to the system as a HID. I know that i was more easy to implement a device with a firmwarw that supports the USB MIDI protocol. This is not the case. Maybe in the future.

Can i start from USBMIDI sample driver to make this?

Thx in advance,

Nuno
