We currently have separate mono and stereo versions (due to old
dependence upon our vst versions), and want to have one unified
version. And we'd want to be able to migrate either the old mono or
the stereo versions to the new unified version. Thus the desire to
change the name.

oh please don´t do that - at last when it comes to the name.
it would be a nice idea for host developers to let users translate
the plug-in names or IDs in an xml file or so (i only say ümlaut),
but plug-ins should not trick with their IDs at all.
for parameter order the idea is understandable - i am curious for
solutions people come up with as well.

Hi,
is it possible to take old saved session data (esp. in Logic and
Digital Performer), and somehow translate that for use in a new plug-
in? What I'm trying to do is to create a new version of our existing
plug-in, but with a different name and a different parameter order,
and allow it to be loaded in sessions saved using our old plug-in.
The way I imagine it working is to run some kind of translator
utility which reads in the old session data and writes it back out as
a new session file, with the new plug-in name and new parameter list
(and values).
Is this possible? Does Apple publish the session data format? How
about MOTU? (And other AU host vendors?)
Thanks,
-Howard
