No, the layouts have no affect on whether the AU appears there or not.

The reverb supports layouts because it does 2, 4 or 5 channel output

I'm wondering if you have a stale AU cache in AULab - look through the preferences and see if you can reset the AU cache (or the Debug menu)

Because AULab sees that the matrix reverb can do this processing. Have
a look at what auval says about your AU.

I see that matrix reverb publishes channel layouts.
I've read in the documentation that supporting Audio Channel Layouts is
optional with mono and stereo effects, but is this the only way to get it
into that sub-menu?
