Getting host channel information

  • Subject: Getting host channel information

Is there a way to ask the host of an AU effect plug-in either the channel
number which an AU has been instantiated on or the output routing of the
channel.

The reason I ask is that I am writing an audio unit that is a controller for
an external hardware processing system. The idea is that the audio is played
from within the host and then routed via the hosts outputs to the
processing system via something like adat or any other hardware outputs. The
AU has a custom view which is used to generate control information which is
then sent over a network connection to the external processing system. The
AU needs to know the host channel information so the parameter changes can
be sent to the appropriate channel on the external system. A work around
would be to include a control on the view so the user can indicate the
hardware output for the channel but this would be a little clunky!

Thanks in advance for any help you may give.
