Just out of curiosity...
In the Default Output Unit example found in
/Developer/Examples/CoreAudio/SimpleSDK, the code
generates a sin wave and then places the data in an
ioData->Mbuffer structure.
My question is this... what format are the samples in?
I know that its raw sine wave data, but if I were to
take the samples and save them to disk, which format
would it be in? If I put an aiff/wav/whatever header
on the samples, would it play back as an audio file?
I always wondered about sound formats but never really
took the time to investigate things. If I take an
audio file and look at it in a hex editor, are the
values in the file samples? Do these values get
copied as is into a sound buffer and played back? If
I were to take the samples and graph them, is that
what you see when you use an audio editing program
like Fission or (insert any audio editing software
that lets you see a wave on the screen).
Inquiring minds want to know... Thanks for listening
:)
