Thanks guys, I got it working. (It seems that when I play *any* instrument on Channel 9, I get the drum kit sounds, whereas if I try even the drum kits on any other channel, I don't. Weird but I can live with it.)

Now I'm trying to replicate QTMA's ability to play notes off the standard 12-point scale. You would do this by specifying a pitch between 256 and 32767; in this range, every half step was 256 values apart, so you could bend the pitch or play off-pitch by increments of 256ths.

I've tried the same thing with MusicDeviceMIDIEvent, but it doesn't appear to work. (And oddly, a search for MusicDeviceMIDIEvent at developer.apple.com results in no matches, so I'm working from code samples and random 3rd-party posts about it around the internet.) Anybody have an idea how to specify in-between pitches with MusicDeviceMIDIEvent?

Thanks,
- Joe
