I'm a musician at university with a keen interest in programming, especially audio and electronic composition. Does anyone have any ideas of where to start when it comes to this kind of programming? Any books anyone can recommend?

http://www.dspguide.com/ is a useful introduction to DSP, which you'll undoubtedly find useful.

It's also a good idea to look over the Apple documentation for core audio at least briefly, and try writing some DSP code.

I'll provide more links later, but my dissertation (on audio restoration!) is due in tomorrow and isn't *quite* finished! :-)
