Maybe I'm wrong, but if you only want to mix system sound into your media
output, then setting system sound output preference to the same device as
your media audio output should do the trick.
If it gets in the way of my wife and kids using the home theater, that'd
be bad. ;-)
My goal is to create a system that not only do not get in the way wives and
kids use home theater but actually is the home theater they use. The same
goes for studio professionals where the distinction between work and
entertainment is more or less non-existent.
