Then you have a complete mixer surface in your Mac. AES/EBU is compatible with S/PDIF.

Going back to a previous question, yes the DD sync word is two valid 16-bit samples but the DD over SPDIF specification recommends searching for 4 leading zeros first to reduce the likelihood of collision even further. In practice (so far), I have not found the extended sync word necessary.

Nice tip! They are obviously assuming that when the signal changes from PCM to DD there will be a short silence before DD starts. Sounds reasonable. When I searched for only sync word, in a normal PCM stream, I got match now and then, about one in 1 minute on average. At least during that broadcast.
