HandleMidiEvent not firing

I can't manage to get HandleMidiEvent (or any of the Handle...
overrides) to fire (verified by print to stderr).  I'm inheriting from
MusicDeviceBase, and my component type is kAudioUnitType_MusicDevice.
StartNote() StopNote() etc. all work fine, but no Handle*.
