For those who are still struggling to use the Audio Converter and ExtAudioFile API's to decompress mp3's. I filed 2 bug reports on this issue and they have come back with the conclusion that they are by design. What they are included for then is anyone's guess as there are audio units available to do straight PCM conversions. If this is indeed the case then the documentation for the Audio Converter on the iPhone is wrong as it states the Audio Converter can be used to convert between compressed formats and PCM formats.
It was suggested that AudioQueueServices should be used for this function so can anyone suggest how I can get access to the decompressed PCM samples using AudioQueueServices. I am making a complex audio based game with much audio content that needs processing on the fly. Wave files are just too big for my project.
