Writing own audio unit

Hi All (again),

If I wanted to write my own audio unit that aggregated a dynamics compressor - is there a 'general' approach thats used when doing this? i.e. derive from AUBase not AUEffectBase, expose parameters in a certain fashion.

Thanks
