AU which outputs MIDI?

Hi all,

we have an AU MusicEffect ('aumf') plug-in, which takes as inputs both audio and MIDI. We're looking at adding the ability to add MIDI output as well. But I don't see in the Audio Unit Programming Guide any AU type which allows for this.

Is this possible? (Both VST and RTAS - but not TDM - have facilities for outputting MIDI data at processing time, but I don't know about AU.) Do any AU hosts allow it? If so, is there any documentation that describes the code needed to output MIDI? (Oh, and if it's available, is it on OS X 10.4 or only 10.5 and later?)

	Or are we stuck with having to write it to a file?
