Hi,
I am currently doing research in the field of realtime audio feature
extraction for visualization purposes. Basically I am building an
AudioGraph and using AudioUnits to analyze the stream and feed a
graphics layer (similar to the SonogramDemo). Of course you would want
the lowest latency possible during the whole process.
Now, to test my results in a real-world scenario, I'd need a reliable
multi-channel audio interface that offers stable core audio drivers
and very low latency AD-conversion (preferably with pre-amps). I am
neither asking for a buyer's guide, nor I want to start a discussion
on anybody's favourite interface, but I would appreciate any
recommendations for this kind of use case.
So I guess it boils down to these two questions:
Which interfaces are known for a very low latency for Analog ->
Digital -> AudioUnit Host flow?
Will a firewire interface be fast enough to convert 8 simultaneous
input streams and feed the AudioUnits in realtime or would you rather
recommend a PCI-solution like Apogee's Symphony?
thanks, and my apologies if this is off-topic on this list.
