Right, that's understandable. But why remove the option for switching
to the internal speakers altogether? I can see that inserting the
cable would select the optical port as the default output, but why not
give the user the ability to switch back to the internal speakers if
they want?
In any case, regardless of whether Apple changes their policy on this,
is it possible for me to override this behaviour through an external
application and provide the ability to switch back to the internal
speakers? Or is this a hardware implementation that can't be altered?
