you would need buy in from the hosts - I really suggest you pursue this with the various developer forums, etc, that are operated specifically by those products

We have done our part in this - we have had a defined offline AU spec for several years now, so I don't think there is anything much more for the CA group to do aside from supporting any requests that would come in to add this feature (which we would of course)

Thanks, Bill. I have filed an enhancement request (6583066).

The only option I can think of for hosts that don't support offline
mode is to require the user to run the plug-in twice.  This would be
similar to noise reduction, where typically the user has to first
train the filter on some data and then run the filter.

This is not a great user experience because unlike noise reduction,
the user is not needed to provide input in the first pass so it's just
an annoyance.  I don't suppose there is any way for an AU to cause
itself to be re-invoked automatically?
