Sorry. I would argue that there isn't enough information here to make any conclusions. On the surface Mr. Lang's description of his problem doesn't seem the same to me as your description of your problem. Throw in the fact that RME hardware is PCI-based and you are talking about a USB device, and you really have an apples and oranges situation.

As I said, the best thing to do is for you to nail down the circumstances surrounding the problem and file a bug.

I've got a similar problem with my MacBook Pro, C2D 2.16, 3GB. I use an

After starting the system, everything is fine for a while. Then, from
time to time, audio starts to sound like short buffers played with a very
high volume (therefore sounding distorted).

Reconnecting the audio device does not help.

Ahaa, here we go :) This is exactly what I was hoping for - someone with
a similar problem but different hardware. Thanks for speaking up!

This behavior occurred the first time with 10.5.7. It never happened with
10.5.6 or earlier.

Which hardware model is that? How much RAM is installed?

What I've also seen is kernel_task consuming a lot of CPU at the moment
of the audio failure - together with a short mouse cursor hang.

At the moment, I see no possibility to give a reproducible scenario to
get these results, but maybe this information helps for further
investigation.

Let's see - I'll check the kernel_task thing as soon as I am presented a
machine with that error.
