There is a third-party unix tool called 'Atomic Parsley' for writing
m4a metadata, which works quite well for me. Although it's pretty
old, it works fine - I currently compile for 10.5 only, but it worked
for 10.4 too. I use it to add metadata to Apple Lossless files after
my app converts aiff's. I call it as an NSTask from Cocoa. The tool
spits out a lot of junk, so you have to trap it in a readhandle.

Am I correct that this is still not possible with any current API,
either Core Audio or QuickTime?
I'm assuming that if I want to do it, it will involve my program
adding QTAtoms to the file.... I'm not looking forward to going
down this path, so correct me if I'm wrong.
No answers, sorry, just a "me too!" I'm also interested in this.
I suspect this is the kind of thing that would be pretty easy to
implement for someone who's already a QuickTime expert, but I
certainly don't want to go there. (I've used that API a bit, and
it's really hairy.)
