There is a third-party unix tool called 'Atomic Parsley' for writing
m4a metadata, which works quite well for me. Although it's pretty
old, it works fine - I currently compile for 10.5 only, but it
worked for 10.4 too. I use it to add metadata to Apple Lossless
files after my app converts aiff's. I call it as an NSTask from
Cocoa. The tool spits out a lot of junk, so you have to trap it in
a readhandle.
Hey folks,
A shameless plug for my ThoughtConduit Media Tools framework -- which
allows you to write metadata to mp4/m4a/m4b/etc. files. It's
commercial, but includes a lot of features like adding chapters,
images, assembling full audio books, and more. The framework can be
configured through code or through reading in a simple xml file.
