iPhone silent switch state

Hi all,

Is there an API that reports the state of the silent switch on the iphone? Currently I'm setting kAudioSessionProperty_AudioCategory to kAudioSessionCategory_UserInterfaceSoundEffects and the audio obeys they silent switch (which I want). I can over ride the silent switch by setting it to kAudioSessionCategory_MediaPlayback, but all I want is the ability to know the state of the switch so I can have a visual indicator on my app to provide feedback to the user when they try to play a sound.

I couldn't find anything in the mail archive, and it seems so simple that I must be missing something.

Any pointers?
