I'm pretty sure they are working SDII files. Quicktime, Sound Grinder
and TwistedWave both can open and play them just fine. I tried the
file player AU in AULab and it also refuses to open them!
I looked at the resource fork with ResFork and it looks absolutely
identical to the resource forks of other files from the same batch
that *do* open with CoreAudio.
Very puzzling...

Are you sure they're SDII files and not some older SD1 files? Also,
are you sure that their resource fork is still intact? The resource
fork is vital for the functionality of SDII files. Perhaps QuickTime
is guessing the format if it can't find that info.

Hi,
I know this is a bit unspecific, but I'm a little helpless with
this: Some
SDII files can't be opened with the 'AudioFileOpenURL' API. I get a
'kAudioFileUnsupportedDataFormatError'. Using the
'kAudioFileSoundDesigner2Type' as a hint didn't help. I couldn't
figure out
how these files are different from other SDII files that work fine.
Strangely, Quicktime API *does* open these files! So does the
Quicktime
Player, of course.
My guess is, that SDII is just too old-fashioned to be still fully
supported. So if anyone knows anything about typical CoreAudio SDII
issues,
I'd be glad to get some insights.
Thanks,
Sebastian
