RemoteIO sound over AudioQueue vs over iPod player: clipping

  • Subject: RemoteIO sound over AudioQueue vs over iPod player: clipping

I'm playing foreground sounds by RemoteIO over a background sound by
AudioQueue. On occasion I hear what appears to be clipping -- very
short sections of light static. Inspecting the waveform, the peaks
at those points are flattened.

If I play the same foreground sounds over a background by the iPod
player, I don't ever hear this clipping. Even if the volume of the
background from the iPod player is greater than the volume of the
background from the AudioQueue, I still don't ever hear this clipping.

Is the iPod player doing something the AudioQueue isn't?

Thanks for any info.
