I think kAudioFilePropertyDeferSizeUpdates has some bearing on this. The default is documented as 0 = 'do update the file header as you go along'.
Haha. That looks like it answers that question. Thanks for all your help everyone, I appreciate it. I feel pretty confident about this process now. Now let's just hope it's all thread-safe :0 Even if it's not, I'm sure I can work around it.
