In continuation to my previous email, just found that if I limit the start of playing the sound files to a full slice I don't get the volume oscillations. So if I have a slice which starts with silence data (zeros) and starts playing from the middle of the slice I'll get the distortion if I send only silence slices or data slices it plays ok. This does look to me like an optimization that remoteIO or something along the audio chain is doing some optimization based on the fact that the data starts with silence and that screws things up. Again on the simulator it plays correctly in either case.
The problem with sending audio only on full slices is that it screws my timing as I can't start play at any time, only on the slice boundary.
Any idea why sending a slice that starts with silence on only later has sound spoils things? Any idea how to overcome?
Thanks.
